Always have a reusable shopping bag on you

Reusable shopping bag for plastic solutions

When we are out and about, the unexpected can happen. We need to buy something, we get a gift from a friend or a freebie that is useful and not wasteful. As we were not planning on it, we don’t have a bag. Usually, we would reach for any (typically plastic) bag.

We know that single-use plastic bags are causing enormous damages to the oceans and elsewhere. We have all seen the animals wrapped in a plastic bag or even dead by suffocation. Even though single-use plastic bags can be recycled, it’s not the easiest thing to do. Many recycling stations don’t have the equipment, and therefore they don’t recycle them.

Many countries and cities have already recognized this as a big issue. In some places, they banned giving plastic bags for free in the stores, but they have completely banned single-use plastic bags in others.

In New Zealand, we are one of the top 10 per-capita producers of landfill waste globally. To diminish these numbers, the government has announced new, more restrictive bans on single-use plastics. These further limitations will come into place in phases between 2022 and 2025. Soon, we will say goodbye to all single-use plastics, including cotton buds, bags, cutlery, plates and bowls, straws, and even fruit labels (1).

Be part of the solution and positively impact the world we live in today.

Small actions together, we can make a significant impact. It can be as easy as grocery shopping with fewer plastic bags as you can, using our cotton bag set for the fruits, vegetables, and bulk food in the refiller store. Put the bag set in the car or where it is easy for you to remember.
